MANDELA WEEKEND

July 18, 2015 @ 10:00 AM - July 19, 2015 @ 8:00 PM

What would Nelson Mandela do today?

Come to Southbank Centre to celebrate and explore the life and legacy of Nelson Mandela. Enjoy free music, talks, film, performances and debates, showcasing new creative talent and ground-breaking debate about South Africa today.

‘People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart.’ Nelson Mandela, Long Walk to Freedom.

Mandela committed himself to making the world a better place for others by answering a politics of hate with a politics of love and reconciliation.

He achieved huge change for the people of South Africa and became a role model for the world. At his 90th birthday celebrations in London’s Hyde Park he said: ‘It is time for new hands to lift the burdens. It is in your hands now.’

Inspired by this call to action, Southbank Centre honours Mandela’s legacy with a festival over his birthday weekend. How can we make the world a better place? What would Mandela do now?
