Through the Lens of Hip Hop: UK Women is a documentary on women from the UK hip hop community. The UK Premiere of the film will be screened at 6.30pm on Thursday 20 August at the Rio Cinema as the opening film of the London Feminist Film Festival. The film touches on issues of feminism, identity, race, hip-hop education, women in the music industry and more. Presented in insightful personal narratives/reflections through intergenerational interviews, this film explores the much obscured but very present feminist hip-hop sensibility in the UK. We’re very excited to say that rapper Pariz-1, who features in Through the Lens, will be performing at the screening. She will also join the directors of Through the Lens and DJ and drummer Chardine Taylor-Stone for what should be a fascinating discussion on film, feminism and women in music/hip hop, chaired by the awesome Jessica Horn. The UK Premiere of short film The Lady of Percussion about a drummer in Cuba will also be shown, before Through the Lens.
