EFG London Jazz Festival and Angola 40 present The Kutonoka Project.
The Kutonoka Project is an afro-jazz musical project where the compositions fuse the ethnic rhythms of Angola with jazz, makossa, funk, samba, rhumba and more.
Kutonoka, from one of the Angolan native languages, means ‘celebration’, which forms the basis of Joao de Oliveira’s septet. The group’s musicality presents a flow of emotions where rhythm melts with composition and reveals itself as a link amongst peoples and cultures from the four corners of the world.
The Kutonoka Project translates the universal meaning of Joao de Oliveira’s music, a classical trained pianist, who reflects life, love, and even the history of societies in his music.
