“Mesmerising trance music of great power… thrilling” Independent
The credentials accumulated by the group are astonishing; led by saxophonist, clarinettist and composer Shabaka Hutchings awarded a ‘BBC New Generation Artist’ title, this is a ‘supergroup’ of sorts, featuring Theon Cross on tuba and both Seb Rochford (Polar Bear, Babyshambles) and Tom Skinner (Met Yourself Down, Mulatu Astatke) on drums.
‘The most fun you can have with a saxophone, a tuba and two drum kits… a swirling brew of rhythm’ The Times
Hailing from the murky world of the London post-jazz scene with a distinctive street music feel, the group bears influence from the dynamic vibe of New Orleans music to the percussive intricacy of West African drum music with some Caribbean dub flavours thrown in for good measure.
“Rasta rhythms, Middle-East and West-African melodies and straight-up rock Energy to ignite a dance floor” The Quietus
The band have catapulted into the limelight having played some of the UK’s greatest and most prestigious festivals and venues including; London Jazz Festival (which this show is part of this year), Maida Vale, The Barbican and Ronnie Scotts.
It is Rich Mix in East London that we’re delighted to say will play host to the Sons Of Kemet, one of our favourites spaces for live music on Friday 13th November. Don’t miss this!
