Following on from the hugely successful Icons of Wu event in March, arts collective Soul Labels presents a one-day festival of all things Africa and the diaspora to celebrate the launch of Lo-Fi Odysseys’ Palm Wine Beats Volume 3. Last year, Lo-Fi produced the first two volumes of his five-part series, supported by the likes of Okayafrica. These mixtapes were unique in their cinematic feel and historical depth, a way for him to “crate dig his heritage”. You could almost see them play out before your eyes.
The next step was obvious: bring these tapes to life. Expect a one-day festival of all things Africa and the diaspora. There will be a house band transforming Palm Wine Beats into a live shakedown featuring the legendary musician Blackman Akeeb Kareem, an AV presentation and volume 3 preview from Lo-Fi himself, a panel discussion about how to progress through arts and culture in Africa and a juju workshop for music enthusiasts who like to get between the notes.
