Nigerian pianist Niran Obasa established his name as one of the foremost session musicians in Nigeria. Currently he is the musical director of The Yoruba Women Choir and the keyboardist of The InRhythms. Lately he focuses on his own compositions that bring together his secular and non-secular vision to create improvisational music that is totally unique. His combination of afrobeat, hi-life, urban grooves and jazz solos brings something new to contemporary African jazz music.
In his SBC debut he plays solo and big band set. His solo set sees him featuring music from the solo CD “CHILDREN OF CHIBOK” – a piano suite dedicated to the kidnapped children of Chibok, Nigeria, which he premiered during the 2014 London African Music Festival and brought the house to tears. With his 10-piece band he features music from his CD “4th Dimension”.
