Gnawa Diffusion will explore themes of globalization, exile, identity, and immigration with a socially conscious, high-energy, reggae and rock-infused style. Based out of Grenoble, France, the band is made up of Algerian immigrants and led by Amazigh Kateb, the son of one of Algeria’s most famous playwrights and novelists Yacine Kateb. The group sings in a mixture of Arabic, Tamazight, French, and English.
Comprised of artists hailing from different cities of Morocco, InnoVe Gnawa opens by celebrating the ancient spiritual music of North Africa with an innovative, hypnotic, and ecstatic take on a trance-inducing folk tradition.
Joining the two groups will be DJ officerfishdumplings (ofd), a Moroccan-American musician and multimedia artist. His latest project, remix ←→ culture, celebrates traditional musicians in harmony with technological innovation and remix art.
