The 14th London African Music Festival presents Sally Nyolo and Djeli Moussa Diawara bring their magical collaboration where they play two ancient string instruments (mvet and kora) to London. This is an unique and enchanting journey, from Fang country to Mandingo empire. They call this magical project “MVETKORA” which is the original meeting of 2 ancient African strings, from Sahel and Rainforest, from Cameroon and Guinea, from Mandingo and Beti traditions.
SALLY NYOLO was born in the Lekié region of Cameroon in 1965 and settled in Paris at 13. In 1993 she joined Zap Mama and recorded album “Sabsylma”, and two live records in Japan and at Montreux. Nyolo Nyolo has recorded “Tribu” (1996), “Multiculti” (1998), “Beti” (2000), “Zaione” (2002), “Studio Cameroon” (2006). Nyolo sings in French, Arabic, English, Spanish, and her native Eton.
DJELI MOUSSA DIAWARA was born into a Griot family. His half-brother, sharing the same mother, is Mory Kanté. He has recorded some great albums including YASIMIKA (1982), FLAMENKORA (1998) “OCEAN BLUE – from Africa to Hawaï” with Bob Brozman (2000).
MVETKORA” is an unique and enchanting journey, from Fang country to Mandingo empire. This is their only concert in the UK.
