Writing for Us

We’re open to submissions and are particularly interested in content written from a fresh, smart and considered perspective – on culture, creative economy, business and development; particularly when linked to relevant current events and debates happening within these areas related to the African continent – in particular the cities our event listings are focused on: Addis Ababa, Lagos, London, Nairobi, Johannesburg, New York – although this list is in no way exclusive.

As a not for profit, we’re not in position to pay large fees for contributions – but we do aim to remunerate where we can. Details below.

Feature Articles & Interviews
Well-written and researched, feature articles, profiles and extended interviews on business, culture and development vis a vis Africa from a fresh perspective – smart content, accessibly written.

Our general submission length is: 1,200 – 1,500 words.

Fees: are at £80 for feature articles.

Reviews
We commission reviews of film, books, live performance, and theatre.

Our general reviews length is: 500 – 700 words, or 1, 200 for extended reviews.

Fees: £50 for review – and £80 for extended reviews

Opinion & Commentary
We welcome short and intelligent opinion pieces and commentary on business, creative economy and development.

We do not pay for opinion pieces and commentary written by contributors with an institutional affiliation and salaried position.

Fees: We do pay a small fee for opinion or commentary from freelance journalists and writers – whether solicited or unsolicited.  Submission Length for this is: 500 – 700 words.

Payment Terms
Contributors must invoice us for work completed, and our payment terms are within 30 working days from receipt of invoice. We do not pay a non-use fee.
