The Gallery of African Art (GAFRA) is pleased to present a summer group exhibition of works by some of its artists from the continent and its Diaspora.

Spread across two floors, the exhibition features paintings, drawings, sculptures, and photography from renowned contemporary and emerging artists. Drawing inspiration from African folklore, mythology, culture, heritage, history, religious iconography, language, gender and their personal environments, these artists have produced works that reveal the visual and cultural richness of the continent.

Most of the artists shown still live and work in their home countries and the selected works reflect the diversity of artistic practice on the continent. For those artists who have remained in Africa, the intimate connection with their homeland has enabled insightful comments and observations on the social, economic and political realities of modern Africa. And for the others practicing outside of the continent, their experiences have provided a fertile source for exploration and experimentation.

Artists included in this exhibition are: Wiz Kudowor, Sergio Santimano, Yaw Obuobi, Ndidi Emefiele, Chief Nike Davies-Okundaye, Tola Wewe, Abiodun Olaku, Dominique Zinkpé, Rafiy Okefolahan, and George Lilanga.
