People of the City is Whats On Africa’s version of the Proust questionnaire. Every week we get into the mind of an interesting person doing amazing things in London as well as globally. This week we spoke with Malakai Sergeant (far right), Co founder of events and theatre platform S and K. Malakai is also a producer of events across London his latest project (Veranda) in collaboration with Libreria bookshop and Belinda Zhawi, ICA poet in Residence.

1. How did you get here?
TFL. They’re really expensive.

2. Are you stressed?
I try not to be. It proves counterproductive for my work. Though I’ve found living in London it’s tricky not to be stressed.

3. If not yourself, who would you be?
Lil Bow Wow – did you see the girls he got back in the day?

4. Which living person do you most admire?
I have to admire my family. I can’t just pick one person. They’ve been a constant home and support network for me helping me achieve everything I’ve created in the past few years.
5. Which place do you call home – and why?
London. Whilst it’s not my families complete heritage it has served a defining environment. There is a wealth of creativity here which seems to have rubbed off onto.

6. What is a typical day in your life like?
Wake up, book a plane ticket, and get the hell out of the morning traffic!

7. What’s the worst piece of advice anyone’s ever given you?
“With great power comes great responsibility”. When I gain all the power, I will get rid of any responsibilities, first starting from washing up!

8. Which film character do you most identify with?
It would definitely have to Mufasa from the Lion King. He’s strong, intelligent and sacrifices himself for what he loves the most.

9.  Name one book you think everyone should read?
Lil Wayne’s The Carter Two. Definitely a product of literary genius.

10. What is your idea of perfect happiness?
Unlimited pizza, and finding the formula needed to show young people how to be the best of themselves.
11. What quality do you loathe in other people?
Hmm it would have to be rudeness. The world is cold enough already.
12. What quality do you most admire in other people?
Someone that is open and honest. I feel as though these are characteristics akin to godliness.
