A cast of world-renowned actors bring the long-awaited sequel to Nelson Mandela’s Long Walk to Freedom, to life.
Watch as Mandela’s reflections on his time in power are performed in this exclusive London launch of Dare Not Linger: The Presidential Years. The evening includes a panel discussing Mandela’s legacy in a troubled world, featuring his co-author, South African novelist and poet Mandla Langa, and Chief Executive of the Nelson Mandela Foundation Sello Hatang, chaired by Jon Snow.
This new book draws heavily on the second volume of memoirs that Mandela began writing in the last days of his presidency (but was unable to finish), and tells the story of the transition from decades of apartheid rule and the challenges Mandela overcame to make a reality of his vision for a liberated South Africa.
What are the enduring lessons that can be drawn from Mandela’s time in power? How can the landmark achievements of the Nobel Peace Prize winner inspire the next generation?
The book’s title, Dare Not Linger, is derived from the closing paragraphs of Long Walk to Freedom: ‘I have discovered the secret that after climbing a great hill, one only finds that there are many more hills to climb. I have taken a moment here to rest, to steal a view of the glorious vista that surrounds me, to look back on the distance I have come. But I can only rest for a moment, for with freedom comes responsibilities, and I dare not linger, for my long walk is not ended.’
