The IISS Security and Development Programme is pleased to invite you to a formal address by the Mauritanian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation H.E. Dr Isselkou Ould Ahmed Izid Bih.
A country at the crossroads between North and West Africa and a key player in the dynamics of the Sahel region, Mauritania faces the threat of terrorism. In this light it is no surprise that the country’s government is deeply involved in regional security efforts to curb and eventually eliminate such challenges. In the course of his address Dr Izid Bih will share details of the approach adopted by Mauritania at both national and regional level.
H.E. Dr Isselkou Ould Ahmed Izid Bih is the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Islamic Republic of Mauritania. A mathematician by training, he has held prestigious positions in both government and academia. He is the former President of Union for the Republic, Mauritania’s ruling party, the former Minister for Higher Education and Scientific Research and the former Director of the President’s Cabinet. He has also served as the President of the University of Nouakchott and Vice Dean of the Students Union at Ajman University, United Arab Emirates. He obtained post-graduate degrees in Mathematics and a PhD from the University of Orléans, France.
