Rhythm Passport Presents: Lakuta, Native Sun, Family Atlantica duo and DJ Pete on The Corner
Come feel the tropical heat! Rhythm Passport bring you a one-of-a-kind Friday night featuring three of the most exciting world music collectives on the scene right now. Pack your bags for the Bank Holiday, leave your daily grind at home and head down to Rich Mix to regenerate your inner groove with Brightonian Tropical beats!
Tropical cyclones Lakuta, Afro-soul/hip hop group Native Sun, and the Family Atlantica Duo will thunder into London on April 28th, ready to tear up the dancefloor with their infectious Afro-Latin rhythms and Caribbean beats. These three ensembles bring an uptempo repertoire and inspired musicianship to the Rich Mix stage, yet represent completely distinct ways to embody the exciting traditions coming from West & South East Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean Islands.
On the decks we have Pete on the Corner. He heads up On the Corner Records which has been endorsed by a broad church of tastemakers – from Gilles Peterson to Laurent Garnier. We’ll work our way through funk, soul, Afrobeat, Latin, Caribbean and more on this exciting night at an iconic London venue.
Lakuta is a Brighton based collective of world-class musicians, DJs and producers, with members hailing from Africa, Asia and Europe. Their exciting music features rousing lyrics, and has its roots in traditional Afrobeat, but is infused with everything from Latin rhythms to western funk and soul.
Native Sun is a London based group led by rapper Mohammed Yahya, born in Mozambique, and singer-songwriter Sarina Leah born in London with Caribbean roots. Their sweet melodies fuse addictive head bouncing hip-hop undertones, conscious bilingual lyrics and catchy hooks – perfect for a climate in need of an uplifting message.
The Family Atlantica Duo represents the core of the celebrated Family Atlantica band. London born Jack Yglesias (The Heliocentrics, Quantic live) is the band leader, producer, arranger and multi-instrumentalist. His wife Luzmira Zerpa is a traditional Venezuelan musician, poet and singer with a magical voice acclaimed by Manu Chao.
DJ Pete On the Corner heads up On the Corner Records. After spending years exploring music cultures and traversing the African continent’s musical hotbeds as an eclectic party DJ he created the OtC label, which has been endorsed by a broad church of tastemakers – from Gilles Peterson to Laurent Garnier.
