John Garnett Lecture 2016

September 29, 2016 @ 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM

| Free
This year’s lecture will be delivered by Nancy Lindborg, the President of the United States Institute for Peace, on how strategy can be used in conflict resolution and peace making.

The annual John Garnett Lecture honours the legacy of Professor John Garnett as the first academic in the field of Strategic Studies worldwide. Professor Garnett pioneered Strategic Studies as an academic field at the University of Aberystwyth, the first UK institution to offer it as an undergraduate and postgraduate course. Professor Garnett’s expertise was also much in demand outside the academic community, and he was an academic consultant at the Joint Services Defence College, a member of the Council of the Royal United Services Institute, a member of the Foreign Office Advisory Panel on Arms Control and the British Representative on the United Nations Advisory Board on Disarmament.

Speaker Bio:

Nancy Lindborg has had a distinguished career in conflict resolution, previously serving as the Assistant Administrator for the Bureau for Democracy, Conflict and Humanitarian Assistance (DCHA) at USAID, and as President of Mercy Corps. She has worked in numerous conflict zones and in response to humanitarian crises including the 2014-15 Ebola epidemic.

She currently serves as President of the United States Institute for Peace (USIP), an institution funded by Congress to prevent and resolve violent conflict around the world.
