The first ever Diaspora in Tech Week to be launched in London.
African diaspora are one of Africa’s greatest resources and have immense potential to impact its development.
Not only are they uniquely placed to leverage global networks and resources but they also have an understanding of some of the nuanced and often complex challenges facing the continent.
From 17th to 21st October 2016 the first ever Diaspora in Tech Week will be held in London. It aims to bring together a global movement of African Diaspora who passionate about leveraging technology and entrepreneurship as tools to make a positive impact in Africa.
Over five days, participants will have the opportunity to attend various events including discussion panels and breakfasts where they will hear from inspiring Diaspora founders and technology leaders. Sessions will cover topics such raising funding for your startup, transitioning from full-time employment to running a business and making it as a diaspora woman in tech to mention a few.
Participants can register to attend any of the events as well as join a mentorship programme to receive further support from a dedicated mentor to help them take their own business ideas forward.
Diaspora in Tech Week is organised by the Africa Technology Business Network, a non-profit organisation working to catalyse technology-based social innovation in Africa.
Africa Technology Business Network Founder Eunice Ball said “As a diaspora-led organisation with six African countries represented on our leadership team, we really understand what a great asset the diaspora is for Africa because it’s personal to us. We believe technology and entrepreneurship have the potential to transform Africa and we see the huge potential of leveraging diaspora skills to contribute to this technology-led development.”
