The Business Council for Africa will be hosting our 60th Anniversary Reception on the House of Lords Terrance on the evening of the 2nd of November. Members are invited to join us for a special evening to celebrate the achievements of BCA over the last six decades and to look forward to the future of trade and investment in Africa. The event promises to be a fantastic networking opportunity for members and leading figures from the public and private sector working in Africa in the historic surroundings of the House of Lords.
We are delighted that we will be joined by the new Minister for Africa, Tobias Ellwood MP, who will be making an address. Tobias was appointed as Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in July 2014, having served as Conservative MP for Bournemouth East since May 2005. In the summer of 2016 he became the Minister responsible for Africa.
Tobias was educated in Bonn and Vienna when his parents were overseas as members of the United Nations. He returned to attend Loughborough University and subsequently completed an MBA at City University Business School. He also completed the senior executive course in National and International Studies at the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University. Tobias was in the Royal Green Jackets from 1991 to 1996. He left the Army at the rank of Captain and is a current Army Reservist. Tobias was a senior business development manager with the London Stock Exchange for two years, and then with Allen and Overy in a senior role.
