Debut EP from Nelson & Friends, combining afro-fusion and dance with striking energy.
‘Ana Ndi Angambo’ which means ‘the kids are mine too’ is a reflection of fatherhood and the struggle of responsibility.
The songs featured on this EP are in three different languages: Cena (Nelson’s mother tongue), Portuguese & English.
Nelson Neves was born in Beira, Mozambique from the Cena tribe. In 2004, he moved to the UK and delivered dance workshops in schools, community centers & detention houses. He then toured with Massukos in 2008 for dance and choreography on different stages such as Womad Festival, Africa Oye and Glastonbury Festival.
In 2015, Nelson created the “Nelson & Friends” collective in London, an Afro-fusion project blending Mozambique music with jazz and funk.
The collective has gained a reputation around East London for their irresistible rhythms and captivating melodies, which makes it impossible for even the most reluctant dancer not to get up on their feet and move. Everywhere they go, they bring a positive atmosphere and make people dance and enjoy.
Nelson’s music is inspired by African artists such as Youssour N’dour, Madala Kunene, Miriam Makeba as well as artists from Mozambique such as David Mazembe, Severino and many more.
Nelson & Friends will be launching the album night with the honouring presence of Baba Adesose Wallace, drumming master from Nigeria, Joro playing Afrobeat & DJ Fenomeno Show from Open The Gate.
