Join IISS as Dr Marc Sommers discusses the priorities and perspectives of Africa’s young people, and explains how governments and international agencies address the challenges they present. He will give examples from the work of the United States’ Department of State and its Bureau of Conflict and Stabilization Operations. The presentation will conclude with ideas that promise to make development work more effective for, and relevant to, young people.

Dr Marc Sommers is a Senior Conflict Advisor for the Bureau of Conflict and Stabilization Operations at the US Department of State. He is a youth and conflict expert and the author of The Outcast Majority: War, Development, and Youth in Africa.

This event will be chaired by Anastasia Voronkova, Research Fellow for Armed Conflict and Armed Conflict Database.
