The School of African and Oriental Studies is pleased to announce the African Development Forum, an annual conference hosted by the University’s Centre for African Studies. An already well-established conference in its 6th year, the African Development Forum has previously hosted speakers including Gibril Faal OBE, chair of the African Foundation for Development and Lanre Akinola, former editor of the Financial Times’ ‘This is Africa’ flagship publication.
This year’s conference, ‘Energy and Agency: Fuelling Africa’s Development’ will host a series of panel discussions on resource conflicts, climate change and women’s power. The conference aims to highlight African Development by bringing practitioners, academics and the general public together to discuss topical issues relating to the field and champion African solutions.
Speakers include Tomi Oladipo, BBC Africa’s security correspondent, Padraig Carmody, author of ‘The New Scramble for Africa’, Betty Makoni, a Zimbabwean gender activist who founded a charity focusing on Zimbabwe’s young sex abuse victims, Rainatou Sow, a Guinean woman who founded ‘Make Every Woman Count’; and many others. Do come and enjoy vibrant discussions led by our captivating expert panel speakers.
Alongside the conference, we will be hosting an African market sharing the vibrant and diverse arts, crafts and food from the continent!
