Words, poetry and music – celebrate the start of the Africa Writes Festival

A poetry night unlike any you’ve been to before. Africa Writes opens with a nostalgic, no-clutter, no-fuss, straight-up evening of hip-hop inspired poems and songs. Featuring Malika Booker, Kei Miller, Amaal Said and more, hosted by Inua Ellams, Theresa Lola and DJ Sid Mercutio. All followed by afrobeat, funk, house and afro-influenced sounds from across the world. Expect your head to nod and your heart to move.

In partnership with the British Council.

Africa Writes is an annual festival organised by the Royal African Society, which aims to promote contemporary African writing and writers as well as to explore Africa’s long literary past and its future. Every year Africa Writes showcases established and emerging literary talent from Africa and the Diaspora.
