Africa Together Conference 2016, Cambridge Union

To commemorate Africa day, African Society of Cambridge University (ASCU) in partnership with various Africa-focused student societies across the University of Cambridge has organized a daylong event to showcase, educate and celebrate the African continent and its people. Under the theme Engendering an Inclusive Africa, the day will include panels of prominent African luminaries on a range of issues reflecting the diversity of the continent.

Africa Together conference is the largest student led conference on Africa at the University of Cambridge. Over the last three years, the ‘Africa Together’ conference has grown into a leading platform that convenes some of Africa’s best minds, policymakers, businessmen and women, scholars, students, and young professionals to discuss issues of critical importance to the continent’s future. With speakers from 15+ countries, this event promises to be one of the largest and most diverse commemorations of Africa Day in the UK.

Confirmed speakers include:
  • Dr. Kanayo F. Nwanze, president of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD)
  • Dr. Precious Moloi-Motsepe, CEO, Motsepe Foundation – President of the Cancer Association of South Africa, South Africa’s Most Influential Women 2012
  • Anas Aremeyaw Anas, Award winning investigative journalist – named one of the most influential Africans 
  • Tarik Choho, Managing Director, OCP SA and CEO, OCP Africa
  • Fadumo Qasim Dayib, Presidential candidate for Somalia – named Feminist of the Year by the Feminist Association Union 
  • Olajumoke Adenewo, AD Consulting – named by CNN as ‘Africa’s Starchitect’, leading Architect in Africa
  • Tariq Ramadan, Professor, Oxford University – as one of the top 100 most influential thinkers in the world and Global Thinkers by Foreign Policy
There will be great food – Jollof from Eko Kitchen and Couscous from Bedouin (which Algériennes at Cambridge agree is authentic!)  and live music – all included in the ticket.
